From 28 June: Olympic Torch Relay in trent barton land

The Olympic Torch Relay will be in trent barton land between 28 and 30 June, taking in the best of our towns, villages and countryside...not to mention the cultural extravaganzas Nottingham and Derby will host in commemoration of the flame.

Thursday 28 June

Mansfield will be the first place to experience the Olympic atmosphere with the relay starting at 11.33am. The relay will run from Mansfield Woodhouse through the Town Centre to Southwell Road.

The flame then ventures off to Newark.

 At 4.30pm the flame will be in Radcliffe on Trent for its final dash into Nottingham, taking in West Bridgford at 5.42pm.

Nottingham will be hosting an Olympic Party in the Old Market Square from 5.30pm onward. This will feature a thrilling line up of up and coming musicians, acrobatics, dance and even the chance to be photographed with the torch.

Anyone travelling to this event by trent barton can get a £2 return after 4pm - just ask the driver.

Friday 29 June

This is a big day as the torch winds its way from Nottingham to Derby via the Peak District. The timings for the special relay events are listed below:

  • Nottingham Castle: 8.14 am
  • Chesterfield: 12.46 pm
  • Matlock: 1.45pm
  • Darley Dale: 3.13 pm
  • Bakewell: 4.23 pm
  • Ashbourne: 6.02 pm
  • Derby: 6.30 pm

Derby will be hosting an unforgettable party to coincide with celebrations in Darley Park. Here is the schedule for Friday.

  • 4-7pm: The Market Square will come alive with excitement as the relay approaches the city.
  • 6.50pm: The torch will arrive in the market square, welcomed by crowds and spectators.
  • 7.20pm The Torch arrives at Darley Park. Celebrations will get underway with a Cauldron Lighting, this is set to be the centrepiece to mark the torch visiting Derby.
  • 8-9pm A Carnival procession will lead the torch out of Darley Park and back into Derby City Centre.
  • 9pm-12am: Derby’s Brazilian themed party kicks off in the Market Place. Dance the night away in true Brazilian style!

Anyone travelling to this event by trent barton can get a £2 return after 4pm - just ask the driver.

Saturday 30 June

From 6 to 6.30am Derby will bid goodbye to the torch as it leaves the Market Place for the wilds of Staffordshire and Birmingham. Bring down your gym kit for a Shakespearian Workout in Derby Market Square from 6am!

The torch relay enters Burton on Trent at 7.30am before it leaves our region.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy the Olympic spirit right here on our doorstep... come down and take in the atmosphere...you will never forget it.

How our buses are affected

All this excitement and festivity will unfortunately cause disruption to some of our buses. We are working with our partners across trent barton land to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum. Please bear with us if your bus is running late.

Thursday 28 June

Buses in Mansfield

pronto: Buses towards Nottingham will be affected as Chesterfield Road, outside Tesco, will be closed between 12.50pm- 1.15pm. Tesco and Wood Street stops will not be in use during this time. We recommend using Mansfield Bus Station instead.

The 1pm bus from  Mansfield to Nottingham will be affected, with buses to Chesterfield running as normal.

141: The journey for Nottingham which leaves Sutton at 12.25pm and Mansfield at 1pm will be delayed due to the closure of Southwell Road.

Stops on Church Street, Frederick Street, Maltby Road, Jenny Becketts Lane, Big Barn Lane and Briar Lane

The torch will then go to Newark before arriving in Radcliffe.

Buses in Radcliffe

Between 4.30pm and 4.50pm Radcliffe Village will be closed, radcliffe line will follow the A52, xprss will not be unaffected.

Buses in Trent Bridge

Trent Bridge and Lady Bay Bridge will be closed to traffic, the times are likely to be from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.   Disruption and delays are expected throughout the day.

The xprss, radcliffe line, cotgrave connection, keyworth connection, 22 and ruddington connection buses will be affected by this closure. We will continue to run buses during these times into Nottingham city centre via Clifton Bridge & Queens Drive, unfortunately we can't serve Trent Bridge or West Bridgford, and our teams will be on hand to offer assistance throughout.

  • customers using keyworth connection, 22 and ruddington connection should get on and off in Broadmarsh bus station.
  • customers using radcliffe line, xprss and cotgrave connection can get on and off at stop M6 instead of Friar Lane, plus the usual stops in Broadmarsh.

The roads should re-open after 7.30pm but again, this will be dependent on crowds.

Nottingham city centre

The Market Square will be closed from midday to 10pm, this includes all stops on Friar Lane.  During these times our buses will stop in the city centre as follows...

  • Buses running into Nottingham including i4, indigo, ROUTE 18, the 21 and centrelink will use stop M1 on Maid Marian Way, this stop is just outside the Park Plaza hotel.
  • Buses running out of Nottingham including i4, indigo, ROUTE 18, the 21 and centrelink will run as normal from Broadmarsh bus station along Maid Marian Way, not serving Friar Lane, but using stop M6 instead.
  • The skylink, radcliffe line, xprss and cotgrave connection will run into the city centre as normal, along Maid Marian Way and will pick up and drop off customers at stop M6 instead of Friar Lane.

Due to road closures and traffic control buses in Nottingham will be delayed. We will have staff on hand to help you get your bus.

Friday 29 June

Nottingham city centre

There will be a procession from the castle at 8.15am during this time there will be a rolling road block in place.  Some morning rush hour buses may be delayed as we wait for the procession to clear our routes. no diversions will be made.

Glapwell

The 10.35am pronto running towards Chesterfield, and the return journey at 11.11am from Chesterfield to Mansfield will be affected by the torch relay.

Chesterfield

The relay starts at 12.45pm, this is likely to affect red arrow and pronto in the town centre.

Derwent Valley

The 6.1 will be affected while the relay event take place between Matlock and Bakewell. Between 9.30am until 4.30pm we will only be able to serve Matlock Station and not the town centre.  The 6.1 which leaves Derby at 2.50pm will only call at Matlock and not run on to Bakewell.

Ashbourne

swift could be delayed while the relay takes place in Ashbourne from 6pm onwards.

Derby city centre

The torch and festivities will cause disruption mostly between 6pm and 8pm. Our buses will mainly serve the bus station only, except for the nines, amberline and H1 which will run from Stuart Street across Derwent Bridge

  • the allestree: buses between 6pm and 7pm will use the bus station only and will not call at five lamps or Kedleston Road. Instead, it will use the A61 and A38, running to Allestree from Robin Croft Road. After 7pm until 9pm, buses will run from Albert Street as far as the University via Ashbourne Road & A38.  All journeys after 9pm will return to normal.
  • the sixes:  buses between 6pm and 9pm run from the bus station as normal, however the sixes will run up the A61 and along A38 to Duffield Road at Allestree where the normal route wil be picked up, bus stops at five lamps and Duffield Road will not be served.   After 9pm the sixes will return to its normal route and stops.
  • the se7ens: the last journey from Derby at 7.10pm will be affected, the bus will run from Stuart Street across Derwent Bridge.   No other journeys are affected.
  • the mickleover, villager & X38: buses between 6pm until 7pm will not serve all stops in the city centre except for the bus station, these buses will be diverted along Traffic Street.   After 7pm these buses will return to their normal route and stops.
  • black cat, indigo & i4 : buses between 6pm and 7pm will use the flyover into the Bus Station and will not call at Corporation Street, after 7pm the buses will return to their normal route and stops.
  • swift: the 6.30pm bus out of Derby will be delayed, no other journeys are affected.
  • ilkeston flyer, red arrow, spondon flyer, skylink, Royal Derby & harlequin: no change to the route or stops, but delays are expected.

Please note that all timings are subject to change depending on the prompt arrival of the Olympic Torch and the removal of the city centre road blocks.

Saturday 30 June

The torch will be leaving Derby at 6.30am and will be travelling out of the city past Royal Derby Hospital and along the A38 before arriving in Burton around 7.30am. It will leave Burton at around 8.10am. Our services are affected as follows...

  •  the allestree – between 6.15am and 6.45am the allestree will run into the city via Full Street and will stop on Corporation Street.
  • Harlequin – the first bus from Derby 7.25am will not start at Derby but will run from Heatherton at 7.25am.
  • the mickleover – Between 6.15am and 6.45am journeys running into and out of the city centre will only serve the bus station only. Between 6.45am and 7.30am all buses will use Station Rd/Radbourne Rd/Ashbourne Rd/Friar Gate/Albert Street/Bus Station. Due to this diversion they will not be able to serve the Royal Derby Hospital.
  • Royal Derby – the first journeys will both run at 7.20am, one from the London Road Hospital and one from Royal Derby Hospital. The journeys prior to this will not run.
  • the villager – between 6.30am and 8.30am no V1 or V2 buses will be able to serve Burton, except for the 6.20am V2 from Derby which will only serve the bus station in Derby. Instead journeys will finish in Stretton and return back to Derby. Between 6.15am and 6.45am buses will only serve the bus station in Derby and no other city centre stops. Between 6.45am and 7.15am all V1/V2 services will run to and from the bus station via Markeaton Island/Friar Gate and St Alkmund’s Way. The 5.55am V1 from Stretton and 6.43am V3 from Burton will not run. Between 6.30am and 8.30am there will be no buses crossing Burton, including V3 customers wanting to get to Burton Train Station.
  • X38 – the 6.55am & 7.15am from Derby will not run, neither will the 7.30am or 7.50am from Burton. All journeys following these will run as normal.
