The annual Shrovetide event returns to Ashbourne on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 February, with the historic match kicking off at 2pm each day and finishing no later than 10pm.
To help you get to the action comfortably, we’re boosting capacity on swift. This year, we’ll be running three double‑deckers instead of the usual two, giving you plenty more seats between Derby and Ashbourne.
Extra buses from Derby to Ashbourne
We’re putting on additional buses for the following Derby departures:
- 10:35am
- 11:05am
- 11:35am
- 12:05pm
- 12:35pm
- 1:05pm
- 1:35pm
These extra journeys mean more space, more choice, and an easier trip into Ashbourne ahead of the match.
Returning to Derby – extra buses on Tuesday night
As Shrovetide can finish at any moment, we’ll have extra swift buses on hand throughout Tuesday evening, ready to run back to Derby when needed.
Route update at 2:35pm
The 2:35pm swift from Derby Bus Station will terminate at Ashbourne Bus Station and won’t serve Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School or Parkside Junior School, as local roads will be closed for the event.
Low fares, plenty of seats
We want to make travelling to Shrovetide nice and simple:
- extra buses running,
- plenty of seats available,
- and you can travel for just £3.
