Ambergate Carnival

Step into a Storybook at Ambergate Carnival this July

A much-loved Derbyshire tradition returns on Saturday 18 July 2026, as Ambergate Carnival transforms the village into a celebration of stories, music and community.

This year's carnival theme is Storybook, promising a magical day for visitors of all ages. Whether you're a fan of classic tales, colourful costumes or simply looking for a fun family day out, there's plenty to enjoy from start to finish.

The festivities begin with the carnival procession at 12 noon, setting off from JC Balls & Sons before making its way to Ambergate Recreation Ground. Among the colourful parade entries will be the sixes team, who will be joining the procession alongside one of the newer the sixes buses. The official opening takes place at 1pm, led by children's author Alice Harman, kicking off an afternoon packed with entertainment.

Visitors can enjoy a fantastic mix of attractions, including parade floats, children's entertainment, rides, inflatables, games, dance displays, live music, stalls, and a wide selection of food and drink. As the sun goes down, the celebrations continue with a disco and live performance from ContraBanned until 9:30pm, all included within the daytime entry fee.

Entry is excellent value at just £3, with children admitted free, making it an affordable day out for families.

If you're travelling by bus, why not leave the car at home? the sixes service stops in Ambergate, making it an easy and convenient way to get to the carnival while avoiding the hassle of parking. Better still, you'll get to see the same iconic bus taking pride of place in the parade before enjoying everything the carnival has to offer.

Whether you're dressing up as your favourite storybook character, cheering on the parade, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Ambergate Carnival is set to be one of the highlights of the summer.
